 Actually, it was named Orodruin in the Elven tongue, then the exiles from Númenor came to Middle-earth, by the grace of the Valar and were not destroyed like the rest of the Númenoreans. They were led by Elendil, Isildur, and Anárion. Elendil started the northern kingdom of Arnor, and Isildur founded the southern kingdom of Gondor. Aragorn is Isildur’s heir. Anyway in the tongues of men they renamed it Mt. Doom. There you go.
